Monday began the track portion of NSXPO and we had relocated to a hotel much closer to the Mid-Ohio race track. It was an early morning for us since the track gates opened up at 7:00 and driver meetings began at 7:30. We would also be greeted with yet another day of record breaking heat and all drivers were reminded of the need to stay hydrated throughout the day. I drank 6 bottles of water and 6 bottles of gatorade during the day and still felt as if it was not enough.
This was my first time on this track but it was my 58th day overall and my 9th different track. Nevertheless, I felt like a beginner driver all over again as I tried to learn the layout and proper racing line. I was fortunate to have KeN SaX as my co-pilot for part of the day and welcomed his tutelage as a result of the 20 years of experience at Mid-Ohio.
For those who have wondered what it would be like to drive your NSX on the track, attending an NSXPO is a great way to start. We always have very experienced instructors with decades of track and racing experience. Fellow Northeasterner Peter Mills was in charge of the students and monitored their progress throughout the day. All of our students have an instructor with them the entire time on the track and also are provided classroom instruction.
The first day was a success and the troops were exhausted from the heat along with the mental and physical testing of reflexes, stamina and comprehension of high performance driving. I will put up only a few photos for now since I spent a good portion of the day in the car rather than shooting plus it is necessary to get sufficient rest before a second day of driving.
